Truck Accident Causes

February 15th, 2010  |  Published in Atlanta Georgia Personal Injury, Atlanta Georgia Truck Accidents

Have you recently been in a truck accident? If so, you’re certainly not alone. In the US alone, there are over 100,000 trucking accidents annually. More than 5,200 truck accidents end in fatalities. Although there are many causes of truck accidents, here are 4 common causes:
1.    Driver fatigue. Most truck drivers are generally paid based on the amount of trips they make. For this reason, truck drivers strive to make their road trips within a quick time-frame. Many truck drivers lack sleep which is considered just as dangerous as driving under the influence.

2.    Brake failure. The weight and size of a truck can place a huge amount of strain on the brakes. To avoid brake failure, it is imperative that a truck’s brakes are well tuned and thoroughly inspected prior to a long-distance road trip.  A truck that is not tuned and properly inspected is more likely to give out while on the road.

3.    Enormous blind spots. A car should always be a safe distance away from a truck. To avoid truck accidents, auto mobile drivers are greatly encouraged to drive within a safe distance of a truck. Vehicles should also drive safely and quickly when passing a truck on the road.

4.    Tire blowouts. Trucks put several miles on the road annually. This places a lot of pressure and strain on truck tires. As a result, this can lead to a blowout and cause a truck driver to lose control while driving.
