Using Power Safety Covers to Keep Your Pool Area Safe

July 5th, 2010  |  Published in Atlanta Georgia Personal Injury, Atlanta Georgia Wrongful Death, Georgia Drowning & Swimming Pool Accidents

During Georgia’s hot summer months nothing is more relaxing than going for a swim in a private or community pool. Unfortunately, as personal injury and wrongful death attorneys we have seen far too many tragic drowning and submersion incidents take place during this time. It is easy for unfortunate accidents to occur in the water, but such horrible incidents can often be prevented by taking some simple precautionary measures such as installing barriers in your home or community facility.

Common barriers include fences and gates, door alarms, and power safety covers that keep children from getting in a pool and/or hot tub unsupervised. While an enclosure that makes it difficult for a child to enter the pool area or backyard, or an alarm that notifies a parent or guardian when a child attempts to enter this area, is helpful in preventing drowning incidents, having the pool completely covered will keep a child out of the water if no other barriers keep them away.

Any power safety cover you install in your home or community facility should meet ASTM requirements, which ensure that the cover can hold two adults and a child. This way, if someone falls onto the cover, an adult will be able to help pull them off without the entire structure giving way beneath them. ASTM standards also ensure that water can be quickly and easily removed from any motor-powered pool or hot tub cover. Don’t hesitate to contact your local pool enclosure company about having a power safety cover installed in your pool or hot tub area as soon as possible.
